The title was given as Die Hodoshe Span at the 1973 première at The Space Theatre in Cape Town (ID 5757) since any references to Robben Island prison camp would be unacceptable to the government. The première was followed by revivals and international tours, e.g. in 1973 (ID 6497), in 1995 (ID 8126) and in 2000-2003 (ID 2845).
