Fugard states that Nelson Mandela was in solitary confinement whilst this performance of the final confrontation between Creon and Antigone was staged during the prisoners' annual concert (see Amid Our Troubles, p.134). He goes on to state that Mandela's famous production of Antigone was staged in another prison than that on Robben Island (see ID 6721).
