We do not know when this play was produced. If it is alluded to in Aristophanes' Birds (829), then this would suggest that it was performed before the production of that comedy in 414 BC (see TrGF 5.1, p. 556). It may on metrical grounds be dated between 418 and 406 BC (see TrGF 5.1, p. 556). The date range for performance given here therefore ranges from 418 to 415 BC. The performance venue and location is not certain, but it is assumed here that this play would have been performed in Athens.
