It is not known when this play might have been produced. The date range for performance is between the year of his first competition (acc. to Suda) and his death (Marm. Par.). It is assumed that this play would have been produced in Athens. This was the second play in Aeschylus' Lycurgeia (Lycurgus tetralogy). The other plays in that tetralogy were: Edonians, Youths, and Lycurgus. This play is cited both 'Bassarides' and 'Bassarai'.
