Demosthenes in his speech 'On the False Embassy' says that this play was frequently (saepe) acted by Theodorus and Aristodemus. It may be assumed therefore that there may have been a number of performances within living cultural memory of the speech's audience and within the period when Aristodemus and Theodorus were active on stage; thus the date here is given as the twenty year period before this speech was delivered. There is of course also the possibility that this is rhetorical hyperbole on the part of Demosthenes.
