It is not known when this play was produced. The date range given here takes as its parameters the earliest date that he is said to have produced tragedy (see Suda) and the date by which he was dead (see Aristophanes Peace 834-7). This play is referred to under a range of titles which use the names Kaineus, Phoenix and also Oineus in various combinations, see TrGF 1, p. 105.
