Production notes:
We do not know the titles of Theognis' tragedies or when they were produced. He is, however, referred to twice in Aristophanes' Acharnians (9f and 138f) and evidently already had a well-established reputation (for being 'cold') by the time of that production (425 BC). He is also referred to, in a context which suggests that he is still active as a tragedian, in Aristophanes Thesmophoriasuzae 170, produced in 411 BC. We also know, from the Suda, that he was beaten by the tragic poet Nichomachus I. All these factors have been taken into account in the date range for productions offered here. See TrGF1, 28 Theognis, p.145-6.
