APGRD Notes
For the production's premiere performances in Stratford-upon-Avon, copies of the text were available to the audience as booklets alongside a pamphlet, by Thomas Edgar Permberton, introducing and explaining the trilogy. Advertised, and described in contemporary reviews, as the first performance in England of the Oresteian trilogy; a number of newspapers make reference to an Oresteia 'a few years ago' in Vienna as the only preceding post-classical performance of the trilogy (in Europe/globally). After performances at Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham, Oxford, and Cambridge, Benson took the production on a tour of 'flying matinees' for the students of England's 'Principal Public Schools' (The Cheltenham and County Looker-on, 11 June 1904 p.11). Initial articles include mention of intended performances for Eton and Bradfield College, but these are not included in later published schedules.
