The score describes this work as a single-movement orchestral piece based on the metres and rhythms of the original Greek of Euripides used in Buller's opera Bakxai. Central to the making of it are the lyric metres of the five principal 'choruses', which all also share common musical roots. The piece was commissioned by the BBC for the 1993 Henry Wood Promenade Concerts.
