Production notes:
Libretto: Antonio Landi, 'Oreste e Pilade. Opera per musica in un atto da rappresentarsi nel Regio Teatro di Berlino per ordine di sua maestà nel carnovale del 1772. Con licenza di sua maestà' (Berlin: Haude e Spener, 1771). It is likely that the libretto drew on Euripides. The production was ordered by Frederick the Great as an entertainment for a visit by the Queen of Sweden and the Duchess of Brunswick. The performance(s) took place in early 1772 during the carnival season. The production was unsuccessful and the opera had to be rewritten. The new production was titled I Greci in Tauride and was performed during the following carnival (see Sartori ID 12505). Another production took place in Berlin in 1786, under the original title Oreste and Pilade (Sartori ID 17374).
