First performance of Jules Lacroix's translation, directed by Edouard Thierry with Edmond Geoffroy as Oedipe. Lacroix's text and Membrée's music were restaged in 1881, again at the Théâtre-Français, this time with Mounet-Sully in the title role. The music composed by Edmond Membrée for choral odes is discussed by Léon Mention in his 1908 biography entitled Edmond Membrée, compositeur valenciennois (pp.19-26) available online http://archive.org/stream/edmondmembre1800ment#page/18/mode/2up (19/04/2012).
