First broadcast on the BBC Third Programme at 6pm (part 1), 8.40pm (part 2), and 9.55pm (part 3) on 27 May 1956. The entire production was repeated on the Third on 14 October 1956, and in three parts over three nights on 22, 23, and 24 November 1956. The Choruses were spoken by Quartermaine et al., and sung by Stephen Manton, Mary Rowland, and the Ambrosian Singers, with the Boyd Neel Orchestra led by Joshua Glazier and conducted by the composer Anthony Hopkins.
