Production notes:
This was probably a neo-Senecan adaptation of Gregorio Corraro's Progne, which draws on Ovid's Metamorphoses, which had been published in Venice in 1558. It was the last in a series of plays produced for Elizabeth I's visit to Oxford (31 August to 7 September). Calfhill was a Catholic theologian and one of the Canons of Christ Church, Oxford. Boas thinks it likely that the actors were drawn from across the University (p.105f.).
