Production notes:
This production of a Latin version of Sophocles' tragedy, prepared for the visit of Queen Elizabeth I, was cancelled since the Queen was too tired to attend. She had arrived in Cambridge on 5 August, and seen a play each day from Sunday 6 August when Plautus' Aulularia was presented by men drawn from across the University (ID 164). Similarly, Ajax Flagellifer was to be acted by men drawn from across the University, although it was to be presented in the Chapel of King's College (Boas, p.97). Boas goes on to state that this Ajax Flagellifer cannot have been the same play as that presented before James I at Christ Church, Oxford in 1605 (ID 4517).
