Production notes:
Libretto: Andromaca. Drama per musica da rappresentarsi nel Regio Teatro di Torino nel carnovale del 1749 all presenza di sua maestà (Turin, Pietro Giuseppe Zapata, 1749). The libretto for this production was an adaptation of Antonio Salvi's libretto Astianatte, first set by Perti for Florence in 1701 (see Sartori ID 3265). The libretto can be linked to Euripides via Racine's Andromaque: it is an adaptation of Racine's tragedy into an opera libretto. According to the operatic convention the ending is modified into a 'lieto fine' (happy ending). Two other productions of this opera in Lampugnani's lifetime took place, one in Brescia in 1752 (Sartori ID 1904), and the other in Genoa in 1753 (Sartori ID 1906).
