Libretto: Antonio Simon Sografi, 'Alceste. Tragedia per musica del signor Antonio Simon Sografi A.V. Poeta del nobilissimo Teatro La Fenice. Composta per il teatro stesso per il carnovale 1799' (Venice: Stamperia Valvasense, 1799). It is likely that the libretto was based on Euripides. Performances took place in the carnival season (between Christmas and Lent).
