Dr Avery Willis Hoffman (Balliol) completed her doctoral thesis in 2005: 'Euripides' Trojan Women: A 20th-Century War Play in Performance' (supervisor: Oliver Taplin). At Oxford, she helped revive the Oxford Classical Drama Society and helmed the Oxford Greek Festival (2004), celebrating the return of the Olympics to Greece. Since finishing her doctorate, Avery has worked professionally in arts and culture guiding creative projects with Focus Features Film, William J. Clinton Foundation (Clinton Global Initiative), TED Conferences (TED Prize 2008), Ralph Appelbaum Associates (Smithsonian: National Museum of African American History and Culture), Park Avenue Armory in New York City, and Brown Arts Institute at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Avery is currently Artistic Director of Court Theatre at University of Chicago. Concurrently, Avery has collaborated with director Peter Sellars on multiple international projects over the last two decades.
