Conferences

The APGRD has been holding international conferences since 1998, when ‘Medea in Performance, 1500-present’ was held 10-11 July at Somerville College, Oxford. ‘Agamemnon in Performance, 458BC- AD2001’ followed on 20-22 September 2001 at Wadham College, Oxford.

Since then we have held six major conferences: ‘Aristophanes Upstairs and Downstairs: Peace, Birds, and Frogs in Ancient and Modern Performance’ (Magdalen College, Oxford, 16-18 September 2004); ‘New Perspectives on Ancient Pantomime’ (Classics Centre, Oxford, 13 July 2005); ‘Greek Drama and Modern Dance’ (Magdalen College, Oxford, 12 July 2006); ‘Pronomos: His Vase and its World’ (Magdalen College, Oxford, 26-27 September 2006); ‘Ancient Drama in Modern Opera, 1600-1800’ (Classics Centre, Oxford, 12 July 2007); ‘Theorising Performance Reception ‘ (Classics Centre, Oxford, 14-15 September 2007); and ‘Choruses: Ancient and Modern’ (Classics Centre and St Hilda’s College, Oxford, 13-14 September 2010).

The next APGRD Conference, ‘Performing Sappho’ (a joint event with the University of Monash) will be held on 14 July 2012 in the Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies, Oxford.
