OPEN DAY: Identity and Community in Performance: Greek Festivals 1927-2012

Saturday, May 4, 2013 - 11:00am
Ioannou Centre for Classical & Byzantine Studies, 66 St Giles', Oxford

Drop in for an open day between 11am and 5pm on Saturday 4 May, for the APGRD's latest exhibition, 'Identity and Community in Performance: Greek Festivals 1927-2012', co-curated by Eleftheria Ioannidou (Drama and Theatre Arts, Birmingham) and Naomi Setchell (Archivist, APGRD).

The exhibition explores festivals in Greece, starting from the first attempts to stage ancient drama in the open-air to the establishment of Greek drama festivals and their development up to the present day. The materials on display view Greek festivals in the context of the larger European dialogues on the revival of antiquity, while also unfolding the performance reception of ancient drama in Greece against the backdrop of the country's cultural, ideological and political transformations in the twentieth century.

Everyone is welcome, no booking required.
