Production notes:
We do not know when this play was produced. It is alluded to in Aristophanes' Wasps (111 and 1074) and therefore must have been performed before the production of that comedy in 422 BC. It may even have been before 429 BC, if it was alluded to in Eupolis' Propaltioi (see TrGF 5.2, p.648). The date range for performance given here ranges from the date of Euripides' first competition (see Life of Euripides for both) to 422 BC, to allow for both possibilities. The performance venue and location is not certain, but it is assumed here that this play would have been performed in Athens.
