Ariston won the competition for new Comedies held at the Amphiaraia in Oropos shortly after the end of the First Mithridatic War. Other victors in the same festival were Heraclides for Satyr play, Epinicus for old Tragedy, Iranus for old Comedy and Hermocrates for Tragedy. For Ariston, Poetae Comici Graeci ed. R. Kassel and C.
