APGRD Notes
Plutarch (Alexander, 29) tells us that when Alexander the Great arrived to Phoenicia (in 331 BC), he held tragic competitions. The kings of Cyprus acted as choregoi: Nicocreon of Salamis was allotted the tragic actor Thettalus, and Pasicrates of Soli was allotted Athenodorus. It was Athenodorus who was voted the winner.
