APGRD Notes
According to Macrobius’ Saturnalia, Pylades performed this role at a banquet given by Augustus at which he shot arrows, as he did in the theatre. Heracles is often mentioned as a subject of pantomime but the length of time separating Macrobius’ dialogue (probably composed in the first half of the fifth century AD) from the reign of Augustus makes it impossible to be sure that this particular anecdote account is reliable.
