
David Ricks is Professor Emeritus of Modern Greek and Comparative Literature at King’s College London. His contributions in the area of classical tradition include essays on English translations (and translators) of Homer, on Neoplatonists in modern Greek poetry, and on the poetry of Cavafy in relation to Plutarch and the Greek Anthology. He is (with Ingela Nilsson) editor of the journal Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, which regularly publishes contributions on classical reception in the Greek-speaking world.
David's publications include, amongst others, The Shade of Homer (1989), Byzantine Heroic Poetry (1990), Byzantium and the Modern Greek Identity (1998, ed., with Paul Magdalino), The Making of Modern Greece (2009, ed., with Roderick Beaton), and The British Council and Anglo-Greek Literary Relations, 1945-1955 (2018, ed., with Peter Mackridge).
