                APGRD Notes
The date of the production of this play is not known. The date range here is based on Sophocles' first (Mar. Par. A 64) and last competition (Life of Euripides 2). According to tradition (recorded in 'Life') Sophocles played the cithara in the performance of this play. On the tradition of Sophocles participating in this play and his Nausicaa, see TrGF4, T 28-30, p.47. It is possible Aeschylus' son Euaion was another of the tragic actors involved in the original production (this suggestion has been made on the basis of the evidence of the Attic hydria from c.430 BC which probably illustrates the performance of the play). The title is sometimes written Thamyris.
