Degree of relationship to ancient play:
This performance was sponsored by Cardinal Wolsey and performed by "some of the gentlemen of the Cardinal's household" (Smith, p.135). Smith also reports that the uninvited Henry VIII entered the banquet in the disguise of a shepherd and stayed on for the evening's entertainment. An amorous mythological afterpiece, reminiscent of Petrarch's Triumph of Love, followed the play.
