Libretto is an adaptation of Gaetano Roccaforte's 'Antigona' (Sartori ID 2070): 'Antigona. Dramma per musica da rappresentarsi nel Regio Teatro di Torino nel carnovale del 1774 alla presenza delle maestà loro' (Turin: Onorato Derossi, 1774). Mysliveček's opera was performed during the carnival season of 1774 (between Christmas and Lent). Three independent ballets were introduced during intervals of the opera: (i) La principessa di Golconda, (ii) Apollo pastore, (iii) Pilade e batillo o Il Premio dato all'antica ed alla moderna danza.
