APGRD Notes
Aristotle, in his Poetics 16, 1454b23, refers to Carcinus' Thyestes. Aristotle assumes that his audience will be familiar with this play which suggests that it was well-known, plausibly (though not necessarily) through performance. The date range for performance is based on Aristotle's lifespan. Thyestes is often taken as an alternative title for Aerope by Carcinus; see TrGF1, 70 Carcinus II, p.212
