APGRD Notes
A film made to mark the performance of Ninagawa’s Medea in Athens in 1984. The main body of the film is a recording of outdoor performance(s) at Hanazono Shrine, Tokyo (in May 1984), but is bookended by scenes shot on location in Corinth and Athens, and at Odeon of Herodes Atticus. After the performance ends, it cuts to a recording of the audience's standing ovation given on 11 July 1984 at Herodes Atticus Odeon, including brief reaction from Greek Minister of Culture, Melina Mercouri (speaking in French). The final credits roll over shots of the chorus and Medea walking through ruins at the Parthenon.
