APGRD Notes
Note supplied to APGRD by Bernd Manuwald: 'This drama (in seven acts) covers the plot of Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex in its first three acts (with some divergences; e.g. Jocasta does not die) and then proceeds to the sequel of the story up to a point that matches the ending of Sophocles’ Antigone. For the sections based on Sophocles, Waldung used the Latin translation of the dramas by Thomas Naogeorgus (printed 1558)'. The dating of the first performance follows the information given on the title page of the printed edition: Oedipi Tragoedia e diversis transcripta autoribus, Naogeorgi, Sophocle, Euripide et Seneca (Altdorf: Christoph Lochner, 1596).
