APGRD Notes
The date of the production of this play is not known. The date range here is based on Sophocles' first (Mar. Par. A 64) and last competition (Life of Euripides 2). Athenaeus claims that Sophocles himself played the part of Nausicaa in the performance of this play (Ath. Deip. 1,20f, see also Eustathius' commentary on Od. 1553, 64f). On the tradition of, and evidence for, Sophocles participating in this play and his Nausicaa, see TrGF4, T 28-30, p.47. It has been suggested that the Nausicaa may have been a satyr drama.
