A note in a papyrus written in the second century AD and found at Oxyrhynchus says that Menander wrote the Imbrians in 302/1 but that its production was delayed because of the tyrant, Lachares, who controlled Athens from 300BC until 295/4 BC. It was later acted by Callippus of Athens; see I.E. Stephanis, Dionysiakoi Technitai: Symboles stên prosôpographia tou theatrou kai tês mousikês tôn archaiôn Hellênôn (Heraklion: University of Crete, 1988), no. 1350.
