Jatinder Verma (Artistic Director, Tara Arts Theatre Company) gave a lecture on 'Tara Arts and the Greeks' at 2.15pm on Monday 12 November 2007 in the Lecture Theatre, Classics Centre, 66 St Giles'.

Jatinder Verma co-founded Tara Arts Theatre in 1977. The company tours vibrant adaptations of European and Asian classics, and is known for its distinctive 'Binglish' style of theatre. Past productions include Tartuffe (1990) and The Little Clay Cart (1991), both with the National Theatre, Oedipus the King (1991) and Ramayan Odyssey (2001).

Blake Morrison (Professor of Creative and Life Writing, Goldsmiths' College, London) gave a lecture on 'Turning Classical Plays into Contemporary Theatre' at 2.15pm on Monday 26 November 2007 in the Lecture Theatre, Classics Centre, 66 St Giles'.

Blake Morrison has worked for the Times Literary Supplement, and as literary editor of both The Observer and the Independent on Sunday. He became a full-time writer in 1995, and has written fiction, poetry, journalism, literary criticism and libretti, as well as adapting plays for the stage, including Lisa's Sex Strike (based on Aristophanes' Lysistrata), Antigone and Oedipus. He is best known for his two memoirs, And When Did You Last See Your Father? and Things My Mother Never Told Me.

Terry Eagleton (Professor of English Literature, University of Manchester) gave a lecture on 'Lacan's Antigone' at 2.15pm on Monday 14 January 2008 in Magdalen College Auditorium.

Pantelis Michelakis (Lecturer, Department of Classics and Ancient History, University of Bristol) and Michelle C. Paull (Lecturer, Department of Drama and Performance Studies, St Mary’s University College, London) gave a presentation on ’Leyhausen’s Collection of Greek Tragic Theatrical Memorabilia 1920-1960’ at 2.15pm on Monday 4 February 2008 in the Classics Centre Lecture Theatre.

Wilhelm Leyhausen (1887-1953), the German Professor of Music at Humboldt University, built up a unique collection of production photographs, cuttings and musical recordings reflecting the changing styles and approaches to Greek and Roman drama from the 20s to the 50s across Europe. Founder of The Delphic College and Institute in Mainz, Leyhausen's own musical settings for Greek choruses are also well-documented in this collection, which enables the examination of amateur and semi-professional productions of classical drama in Germany, France, Britain, Italy and Portugal for half a century.

Joanna Paul (Lecturer, School of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology, University of Liverpool) gave a lecture on 'Performing Epic in the Cinema: Epic Bards, Kleos, and the Epic Tradition' at 2.15pm on Monday 19 May 2008 in the Classics Centre Lecture Theatre.
