We do not know when this play was produced. On metrical grounds a date after 415 BC is more likely (see Collard, Cropp and Gibert, Euripides Selected Fragmentary Plays II (Warminster, 2004), p. 112). The date range for performance given here therefore ranges from 415 BC to the date of Euripides' last year competing in the Dionysia before leaving to go to Macedon (see Life of Euripides). The performance venue and location is not certain, but it is assumed here that this play would have been performed in Athens.
