We do not know when this play was produced. It is perhaps parodied in Cratinus' Archilochus and so must have been performed before the production of that comedy c. 430 BC (see TrGF 5.1, p. 520). The date range for performance given here is therefore from the date of Euripides' first competition (see Life of Euripides) to 430 BC. The performance venue and location is not certain, but it is assumed here that this play would have been performed in Athens.
