It has been doubted whether Sophocles wrote an Andromache. Only one fragment from it survives and it is possible that 'Andromache' may be a mistake for 'Andromeda'. If there was such a play, then we do not know when the Andromache was first produced. The date range given here is based on Sophocles' first competition (Mar. Par) and his last (Life of Euripides 2). It is assumed here that the play would have been performed in Athens.
