Production notes:
The date of the production of Neophron's Medea is not known. A hypothesis to Euripides' Medea cites Dicaearchus and ps-Aristotle as saying that Euripdes' play was adapted from Neophron's Medea (the Suda also mentions this tradition). Some scholars, however, argue that Euripides' play must have been the model. The date range given here takes both scenarios into account, allowing that the production might have happened either in the decade before or the one after Euripides' Medea (431 BC).
